What does the brow lift procedure entail?

A brow lift, or “forehead lift,” treats the signs of aging by releasing wrinkles and raising your eyebrows to a youthful position. Dr. Hyman uses two different methods to resolve the aesthetic issues affecting the brow safely and beautifully:

Endoscopic brow lift
Coronal brow lift

Dr. Hyman is experienced in both methods, and his approach varies depending on your unique anatomy and treatment goals.

He performs more endoscopic procedures than coronal, as most patients are candidates for this less-invasive, advanced method with shorter incisions and a faster recovery.

Both techniques begin with the delivery of anesthesia from our board-certified anesthesiologist so you are comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, incisions are made, tissue and muscle are adjusted, and incisions are closed. Dr. Hyman performs surgery in his private ambulatory surgery facility.

Endoscopic brow lift

With endoscopic brow lifts, Dr. Hyman makes tiny incisions just inside the hairline. He utilizes an endoscope, which is a small tube with a camera on one end, and other specialized tools to alter the tissue and muscle. Through these adjustments, wrinkles are released, and the forehead regains a relaxed, youthful appearance. If needed, your eyebrows can be raised as well.

Coronal brow lift

Not every patient is a candidate for endoscopic treatment. In these cases, Dr. Hyman uses the coronal technique. A coronal incision is made from one ear, over the top of your head, to the other ear in the hairline. The brow is lifted, and necessary alterations of the forehead muscle can be made. Excess skin is removed, and skin is tightened to create a smooth, refreshed look.

What can I expect after a brow lift?

Dr. Hyman will provide specific aftercare instructions for your recovery. For optimal healing and results, it is vital that you follow his recommendations. Special care must be taken to minimize swelling and protect the incision sites from any impact.

An elastic bandage will be wrapped around your head after surgery. Dr. Hyman advises that you keep your head elevated and avoid all strenuous physical activity. It is best to plan on taking a week or more away from work so you can rest and promote healing. You will also want to restrict your sunlight and heat exposure.

Comprehensive follow-up care

Two days after your brow lift, the dressings will be removed. A week or two after the procedure, sutures are removed.
